An essential component of the successful implementation of spearfishing is the correct selection of equipment that is chosen in accordance with the hunter's experience, physical predispositions and hunting technique. The following techniques are practiced: underwater hole hunting, spearfishing in ambush, underwater sinking hunt, spearfishing stalking hunt and combined techniques. Underwater hole hunting is a technique of detailed inspection of a potential fish refuge. Spearfishing in ambush requires calmness while waiting for curious fish to approach. Underwater sinking hunt, as one of the oldest techniques, presents the dive towards prey spotted from the surface. Spearfishing stalking hunt means sneaking along the seabed and catching prey with the element of surprise. Increasingly, hunters use a combination of the mentioned techniques.
