The subject of this paper is ships for the transport of chemicals. Chemical tankers are very complex ships which have to be built in accordance with international regulations. It is emphasized that conventions and regulations follow the development of chemical tankers with a view to protecting the marine environment and the health of the crew. Chemical and petrochemical products are transported by the ships. Corrosion is a destruction process of construction materials. It is caused by chemical, physical and biological changes. Ship tanks can be protected with stainless steel construction and painting. The objective of this paper is to describe the safe transport of chemicals, with the help of a crew that is adequately educated. Marine pollution is always present in the world. It is necessary to know the physical and chemical properties of the chemical cargo to estimate the risk of handling and transportation. When these properties are known they could be controlled and planned by specific emergency procedures. The captain of the ship or the officer is responsible for cargo handling. The loading and unloading have to be under constant supervision to prevent any spillage or pollution.
