Abstract
Matematika je nezaobilazan dio programa na svim tehničkim fakultetima pa tako i na Pomorskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Splitu. Zbog svoje specifičnosti te velike primjene u raznim drugim znanostima i područjima, bitno je ne samo savladati nastavno gradivo iz matematičkih kolegija već ga i usvojiti kako bi se u pravom trenutku i na pravom mjestu znalo isto i primijeniti. Matematika kao znanost i pomorstvo kao djelatnost nastaju gotovo u isto vrijeme. Razvoj matematike utjecao je na razvoj samog pomorstva. Cilj ovoga rada je ukazati na neraskidivu vezu između pomorstva i matematike te bitnost usvajanja matematičkog znanja za pomorce. No važno je znati da njihova veza nije obostrana; dok matematika bez pomorstva može, pomorstvo bez matematike nikako ne može.
Abstract (english)
Mathematics is unavoidable part of the programme at all technical faculties and thus at the Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Split. Because of its specificity and application in various other sciences and areas, it is important to master its teaching material and apply it properly when needed. Mathematics as a science and seafaring as an activity occur almost at the same time. The development of mathematics influenced the development of maritime affairs. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the unbreakable connection between seafaring and mathematics and the importance of seafarers' adopting it. However, their relationship is not mutual. While mathematics does not depend on maritime science, there is no maritime science without mathematics.
