In this graduation thesis is described basic light and radiation characteristics. Radiation propagates on the principle of electromagnetic waves. The emphasis is on the optical radiation spectrum which consists of three types of radiation, namely the visible radiation spectrum, ultraviolet radiation and infrared radiation. It is important to emphasize that man sees only the visible spectrum. The physical bases of light and colors are compared and light sources are described. The impact and experience on human being are explained, accompanied with the description of human eye and all of its function how humans can see and percieves environment. Mathematical formulas define the basic lighting quantities and mention other quantities that a person can encounter. The basic lighting quantities include luminous flux, light intensity, luminosity and brightness. The aim of this paper is to prove the influence of light on humans. Based on all research, it can be concluded that human life depends a lot on light. Light is very important for the transmission of information from the environment and this therefore extremely important for human life. Quality lighting enables greater alertness and activity and contributes to greater concentration and productivity.
